‘Death Magnetic’ And The Internet.

I know that this is primarly a film blog, but i’d like to go a bit musical on you for a bit…

(And besides it says “movies n SUCH” up there…this is the “such”)

So, Metallica’s new album, ‘Death Magnetic’, hits the shelves in 6 short days. And in short, i’m highly looking forward to it, being a fan of the band since i was 13; although i’ve pretty much heard the full thing thanks to the band themselves being a bit too kind with putting full tracks on their official site…I’m guessing to combat internet piracy and the fact that it “officially” leaked on to the net a few days ago.

Oh, how i remember a day when i’d have to wait for a report in Kerrang or Metal Hammer describing the new album…Now i can either go to the bands site or youtube and hear it. The times they are a changing. For the better? Not in my opinion.

I miss hearing an album or watching a movie with a fresh mind and being completely surprised…Now with easy access to information and actual music or footage, it’s kinda ruining the experience. Do i have to watch or listen? No, ofcourse not, but if you’re a fan of something you have no willpower for these things for the most part.

Remember the days when you’d have to listen to the radio for hours to hear a song? Or wait for ages to catch a trailer/film clip on TV?

Yes, i realise i sound like an old man, whinging about the days of yore. But, i’m a nostalgic person and nothings a surprise anymore. The internet has taken the excitement out of things for me.

The internet. It’s my best friend and my most bitter enemy. The bastard.

Right, i’m off to top up the tobacco in my pipe, get me slippers on and watch a betamax on my black and white tv. The maybes whip out me phonograph for a spot of music.

  1. It’s the way business is done these days,” Mr Ulrich said. “And there’s the novelty of anyone wanting to listen to a new Metallica album.”
